Prayer is priority to me! Early on, prayer did not always come natural for me. I knew the Lord's Prayer and a few other learned prayers but I felt the desire to pray more but just didn't know how. Over the years God has shown me it's as simple as speaking His word forth :)

Last Saturday evening we pulled up to Cracker Barrel for dinner on our way home. I grabbed my fluffy jacket and we walked hand in hand as a family inside. The crackling and burning wood in the big brick chimney fireplace filled the room with such a heavenly campfire smell which was perfect on such a chilly January evening. Our hostess sat us at a round table for five in the corner by the fireplace. It was about 6 o'clock in the evening and the restaurant was getting busy. This day we only had three of our children with us. Zoë was busy with the coloring page while the rest of us were in a serious competition of the famous peg game at every table of Cracker Barrel. The first go round we were all Eg-no-ra-mooses! The second round some of us were Eg-no-ra-mooses and some of us were just plain dumb. Then Asa became "purty smart" along with Tommy becoming "purty smart". It was my turn and I looked at my son Asa on my right side and said, "I see myself getting one peg!" Asa laughed and I smiled and looked him straight in the eyes while grabbing the game and said, "Asa, I see one peg!" As I played, I talked my way through the jumps and before I knew it I was a genius! One peg! As I lay in bed that night thinking about the one peg, I remembered some other specific times in my life where I told myself I see it and it happened. When I was in elementary school I played softball in our neighborhood league. I remember several times throughout the softball season while walking up to bat, I would see myself hitting the ball or while standing in centerfield waiting to see what the batter was going to hit, I would see myself catching a high fly before it happened and sure enough I would hit the ball or catch the high fly in centerfield! But probably the most significant memory I have of seeing something and it happening was one year before I met Tommy. I was on a date with a friend. We were sitting at Pizza Kitchen dipping bread in the olive oil and parmesan cheese which was so delicious and my friend asked me a question, "Where do you see yourself in ten years?" I was 26 or 27 at the time of this question with no possibilities of a future marriage proposal anytime soon. I didn't even have a boyfriend prospect! Without hesitation, I took a bite of my bread and said, "I get to meet my husband and children!" And as I said that statement, real excitement came over me. My friend said, "how do you know?" I confidently said, "I just do!" I didn't have specific faces in mind but I could just see me with a husband and children in the next ten years. One year later I met Tommy and we got married. Several years into marriage we were blessed with eight children: six by adoption and two by birth. I believe the very moment I declared what I saw in my future was the very moment God moved in this area of my life! I really believe that. What are you believing God for? Is it to have children? Mend your broken marriage? Save your lost child? Get married? Be healed? Sell your home? Write a book? What do you see? Think about what you are believing God for and then SEE it! I hope this encourages you, my friend, and I pray confidence and boldness over you to SEE what you are believing for! Feel free to be bold and share in the comment section what you SEE. You never know how much your faith to believe and see can inspire and encourage another. Isaiah 43:19 (NLT)19 Happy New Year!
How are you starting off the New Year? For the past several years, I have entered into a fast for a certain amount of time with a specific purpose to get God's guidance and direction for the New Year. I make it a point to press into God, tune my ears to His voice and pray and wait for Him to speak. He is faithful every single year to speak His guidance to me. What does His guidance look like? In the beginning of the new year, I will commit to fast and pray specifically for His guidance and direction. His guidance has simply been one to three words of direction for the coming year. Throughout the years, He has given me words like intentional, encourager, fervent, press in, eager, specific, be available, sustain, and "I got this" says God, Each year He brings to my attention 1 - 3 words for me to embrace in the New Year. I have also received specific scriptures from Him for guidance and direction. It never fails, that the words He gives me in the beginning of the year or the scriptures He highlights are the exact words and verses I need throughout the year to either grow deeper as His daughter and/or be equipped in a spiritual or earthly battle I will face. How do you know a word or scripture is specifically for you from God? God has always confirmed His word once I receive them. One year I received the word "sustain" and I just could not embrace this word but it kept coming to my mind. After battling in my head thinking is this from You God, I was sitting in church one Sunday and one of our pastors was talking and all of a sudden I heard the word "sustain" come from his mouth but he didn't say it one time rather the word "sustain" came out of his mouth about six times in what seemed to be one paragraph :) God had gotten my attention and also made it crystal clear that "sustain" was from Him. I froze and then chuckled to myself and said, "God, I hear You loud and clear!" I went home and wrote down the word "sustain' in my journal knowing that this was a word of guidance from Him for me for the coming year. Would you like to start your year off with His guidance? You can! Just ask Him. Go before the Lord and tell Him you want His guidance and direction for the coming year. I know He will be faithful to fulfill this request for you. Or maybe you already receive guidance from Him in the beginning of the year. I would love to hear how He speaks to you and what are some of the words He has given you. Feel free to post in the comment section. You never know if your experience with God will encourage another :) Have you ever fasted before? Biblical fasting is a way to go deeper in your walk with God. Fasting denies the flesh but in the process fasting builds spiritual muscles. Biblical fasting is not easy but the reward for denying the flesh is well worth the discomfort I feel during a fast. Starting off my year with fasting and praying has become an essential part of my life and walk with God. I have found that some people need encouragement to begin something new so here is your encouragement: You CAN do this!! :) May this be a year that you go deeper in the things of God! Happy New Year to you! |
